The client came to us with a challenging garage space: a very small area with a low ceiling. This made it difficult to find room for storage while still leaving enough space for their vehicle and daily use. The garage had limited floor space, and the low ceiling restricted vertical storage options. The main issue was the underutilization of the area above the garage door and garage door tracks, which wasn’t being used for storage at all. Our goal was to maximize the available cubic square footage and make the most of the space that wasn’t being properly utilized.
To solve this, we creatively designed a storage solution that made use of the overhead space above the garage door and tracks. We installed 24-inch inverted shelving above the front of the garage door and on the left wall, effectively using the previously wasted space for storage. This shelving provided the client with much-needed room for storing seasonal items, tools, or boxes that didn’t need to be accessed frequently but still needed to be kept within easy reach. On the right wall, we used 16-inch regular brackets for shelving, due to the stud location and spacing, ensuring the storage was both secure and stable.
The result was a garage that made the most of every inch of available space. The client now has a highly functional storage solution that makes use of vertical space without interfering with the garage door or the functionality of the garage. By utilizing unused overhead space, we were able to create an organized, clutter-free environment that maximized storage while keeping the remaining space open and accessible. Another satisfied customer who now enjoys a much more organized and efficient garage!
